Idiotic or not, the ‘Tembel’ hat became a symbol of the Israeli ‘Tzabar’ in Israel’s infancy days.
In the mid 1930s, the hat came into production in ATA’s factories. Many among both Palmach soldiers and Labourers wore the hats to protect head and neck; respite from the unforgiving rays of the desert sun. The hats were lightweight and designed to fold smartly and stow comfortably in your pocket.
